The Russian Blue Cat
History
The Zar’s Blue originates from the frozen lands around Archangelsk, a port on the extreme North Western coast of Russia on the White Sea.
They soon left the frozen expanses of their birthplace to enter the most lavish palaces of Europe, those belonging to the Tsars of Saint Petersburg.
Around the middle of the 19th century they were already being spoiled at the court of Nicholas I who even allowed them to sleep with his children, convinced by a popular legend that they brought good luck.
The first cats of this breed reached Great Britain in the second half of the 19th century and were presented at the International Cat Show of 1871 at Crystal Palace in London.
The Zar’s Blue has a very warm undercoat and grey-blue fur that makes a striking contrast with the deep green of its eyes.
Discreet and refined, they play delicately; they love being held and regaling their owner with their chorus of soft purrs.
Never aggressive either with children or with other pets, they have a very warm undercoat but they don’t like the garden, as they loved to be kept warm and stroked.
The characteristics of the breed:
* Head: cuneiform with a long, straight profile
* Eyes: slightly almond-shaped, well spaced and very green
* Ears: almost as long as they are wide; without fur on the inside
* Legs: long and slim, with small rounded paws
* Tail: long and tapering
